From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.
Baguley Brothers were very understanding during the whole process, as myself and brother had not dealt with this before.
Mum had already made a pre paid funeral plan. This made it so easy for us. Her collection was very respectfully and quickly carried out and Baguleys contacted us politely about making arrangements. Things weren't easy due to the death occuring just before Christmas so this delayed the certificate issue. However Baguleys were very understanding about our preferences and found a suitable minister and helpful about all the details required at a time when so much has to be done. The service itself went beautifully and we received many compliments about it. The funeral director was perfect, warm, respectful, kind and gently nudging us to ensure appropriate conduct. I think our Mother would have loved it. Thank you Baguleys.
Baguley Brothers Funeral Directors were amazing. My mother died at home, and the staff at baguleys were wonderful to deal with. They were professional and respectful and a real comfort to me during a very difficult time. Any questions I had, Sam at the office on Mansfield Road was a great help and so kind and respectful. She went above and beyond what I would expect. And the funeral was so beautifully done. I am so grateful to them.
Our family have been supported by Baguley Bros. for many years and my recent experience confirms that they have the same professional, supportive, caring and approachable attitude that they have always shown. Nothing is too much trouble and everything is clearly and thoroughly explained. At such a difficult time it is comforting to be assured that they care for my loved one and for those left behind. Thank you for everything.
Excellent service from Baguley Brothers. They made a sad and upsetting time more manageable with their help and support. Samantha was so understanding and empathetic. The send off for my Mum was beautiful. Would recommend Baguley Brothers 100%. Thank you so much. I know my Mum was well looked after.
